Building global address standard with custom nicknames.
Hi there! As the two co-founders of Postnick, we are ambitious to globally simplify the postal addressing system of the world and we’re excited to share it with you.
Postnick is a centralized address management application to globally simplify the process of defining, sharing and managing address information.
With Postnick, users can set easy-to-share, unique and custom nicknames to long and complicated postal addresses, like >>john, >>lisa.home, >>sunshine, >>005 or >>company.hq. These nicknames are called as >>postnicks and represented with a leading >> symbol.
We developed Postnick on the basis of creating a universal social impact and making lives easier. As the two co-founders we both have moved our houses several times, changed many office addresses for the last decade and facing the problem of sharing complicated addresses in each platform every time, we have seen the burden and a huge potential problem to be solved.
Going deeper on analysing the problem we have seen that the mass majority of the world still have complicated, inconsistent, weak addressing systems and for certain regions there is not any addressing system at all. The rest of the world with slightly well designed postal addressing systems still lack global acceptance and ease of use when it comes to cross-border commerce. These weak systems lead billions of dollars of cost to businesses, with higher carbon emissions caused by deliveries to wrong addresses, and even loss of lives when it comes to emergency situations.
Since this is a universal problem that needs to be solved, there are some alternative solutions we all use to ease the process of reaching an exact location or postal address. Street naming and numbering began with the Age of Enlightenment and since then officials and entrepreneurs tried to find efficient ways to either define coordinates or precise addresses via system generated alphanumeric coding or wording solutions. Some of these solutions are postal codes, ZIP codes, Google Plus Codes, Eircode and what3words.
The biggest handicap of all these and other similar solutions is, all of them provide a pre-assigned, mandatory, not easy to remember coding format. Research indicates that a great percentage in many countries do not even remember 4–5 digit postal codes and have to look it up again and again. Imagine the case with 8–10 digit alphanumeric coding systems. In addition, the existing coding systems assign the code to that specific location or address, not to any specific individual. Therefore if the person living in that location moves to another place, that person has to get the new pre-assigned code for that place; and of course needs to update all address information manually in all registered platforms.
Putting all these facts and information, we believe we have created the ultimate, unique solution for addresses. It is unique in many aspects. First and maybe the most valuable idea behind Postnick is letting everyone choose their own custom address identifier — a nickname known as >>postnick. Users can choose from any words, letters or numbers to name their postal addresses and precise locations. Just like we all got our e-mail, domain or social media account names, every person will have a unique address nickname with Postnick.
The other crucial point of differentiation is Postnick’s approach to assigning addresses. On the contrary to all mentioned solutions that assign a code to a specific address, Postnick assigns the postal address and precise location information to the preferred >>postnick. This allows >>postnick owner to keep the same unique address identifier lifetime long. When relocated, the user still keeps the >>postnick and only updates the address information assigned to it in their Postnick account. All platforms will have the up-to-date address information assigned to the >>postnick.
Postnick is also unique by letting users keep all their addresses (home, work, summer house, parents house, delivery point etc.) under the same >>postnick. A user who owns >>john can create unlimited sub-nicks like >>john.home, >>john.office or >>john.nyc. This correlation makes it simpler to manage all different addresses under the same unique name. Another specific example for this use case is businesses with many branch offices and stores.
Postnick is the full pack for address information. By sharing your >>postnick, you are not only sharing your postal address details, but also coordinates for precise location and even address description to make it trouble-free delivery to your door.
Any business that gets address information from its users can integrate Postnick with a SaaS model. With this integration, users will be able to use >>postnicks instead of long and complicated address details (e.g. city, county, building number, flat).
Some verticals we are primarily focused to integrate Postnick are :
- E-commerce Websites
- Cargo and Logistics (including last mile delivery)
- Emergency Services
- Taxi / Ride Hailing / Ride Sharing Apps
As the two ambitious co-founders we have been working hard on Postnick and we’re really thrilled to share it with all of you.
